Products to protect your PC against spyware attacks and unauthorised intrusions.
Firewall Products
These act as a protective boundary between a PC and the Internet by blocking the operation of spyware programs. Modern firewalls fall into two main categories:
- Software firewalls: Also known as personal firewall products, these are software programs
 designed to protect single, Internet-connected PCs or small networks.
- Hardware routers: These are hardware devices that are typically used to connect internal networks of PCs to a single Interent connection. Modern routers often include firewall software, and, for this reason, you may sometimes hear a router referred to as 'the firewall'.
Software firewalls, running on individual PCs, can be combined with network routers for maximum protection and flexibility.
Some suppliers such as Symantec, McAfee and BullGuard offer PC security bundles that combine firewall, anti-malware and anti-spam products.
Anti-Spyware Products
Although many anti-malware software products offer 'all-in-one' protection against both malware and spyware, a number of dedicated anti-spyware products such as the following exist.
